Create A New Matchmaker Councillor Position
-
The role of Player Councillor currently handles many different jobs and manages/controls a variety of important parts of FAF. I think that the community would be better served by splitting off some of those responsibilities to a new Matchmaker Councillor position (that would be elected separately).
The Matchmaker Councillor would:
- Organize and maintain the matchmaker map sheets and teams
- Decide what maps go in what pools
- Reliably update the map pools on schedule
- Decide what queues and options to implement in FAF's matchmaking system
- Survey and gauge player preferences for map pools and matchmaker options
- Adjust matchmakers and map pools based on player preferences and experiences to foster a fun and competitive atmosphere
Creating this elected position would allow users to vote specifically for the candidate with the best vision for matchmaking in FAF.
It would also allow the Player Councillor to better focus on his/her many other responsibilities to the betterment of FAF; increasing focus on things like tournaments, creating events, coordinating with developers, listening to and acting on player feedback, etc.
Thus, creating a new Matchmaker Councillor position would improve FAF's overall quality.

Yes, but:
- Archsimkat was already on the ladder team
- Archsimkat was already proven competent enough to undertake the role
- Archsimkat was already proven dedicated enough to continue to preform his role
- Archsimkat is only doing one pool currently
An elected(?) councilor will
- Possibly be chosen without any knowledge of our system
- Possibly be chosen without the required competency to rate maps
- Possibly be chosen without the ability to rate both pools (this could go all the way from 1v1 to 6v6 in the future)
- Possibly be chosen without any prior willingness to contribute
- Possibly quit early due to being the target of unavoidable ladder related fustrations (waah I lost the game shit map shit balance)
- Be targeted for re-election when said fustrations boil over
So, no thank you.
Right now we admit people to the team if they can display a competency, and FtX has delegated the tasks of the pools to people who prove willing. Arch is performing well at his given role, and if you have a fustration about the pool - mention that fustration so it can be acted upon instead of leveling blame at the person behind it.

Unless 60% of active players participate in the election this is a valid argument. We have a responsibility to assure a good game experience for everyone who just plays and does not care about wild new ideas presented in a fair election.

Pls no more FAF elections.
