The current pre-release of the client ("pioneer" in the version) is only compatible to itself. So you can only play with other testers. Please be aware!

    • RE: Add upgrade t2 shields for aeon

@penguin_ said in Add upgrade t2 shields for aeon:

You are focusing too much on shield size. Shield size is not as important as shield hp per mass.

The size of the shield is very important, for example, where one seraph shield is enough, two aeon shields are needed, such cases on the dual gap map very often occur that one seraph shield closes all mass extractors, in order to close all mass extractors for aeon, two shields are needed.
Far fewer objects fit under an aeon shield than any other t2 shield.

    • Add upgrade t2 shields for aeon

Please add the upgrade of shields from t2 to t3 for aeon.
I don't see any reason why only aeons need to manually rebuild their shields when all races can upgrade their shields.
This will not make significant changes to the balance.
      This change is for convenience.
This saves precious seconds in the game when, instead of rebuilding shields, shields can be upgraded.

    • RE: SUGGESTION: AEON T2 Shield Generator Fix

@Nomander said in SUGGESTION: AEON T2 Shield Generator Fix:

I don't think being unable to upgrade the shield is a huge drawback

The inability to upgrade the shield is a huge disadvantage in the late game, because it requires a lot of micromanagement and there is not always time to manually destroy the T2 shield and build a T3 shield instead, since this takes time, which gives the opponent a significant advantage.
Also, rebuilding can be hindered by other units that can take the empty space when the shield is destroyed, which also affects the effectiveness of the game.

I do not see any excuses why the shield cannot be upgraded, maybe the developers did not have enough time to add this functionality or forgot.

In the late stages of the game, the T2 shield does not provide any advantages, the radius is too small and the HP of the T2 shield does not play such a big role anymore.

    • RE: Is there access to the game API to obtain certain data?

@nine2 Are there ways to use Python to call LUA functions and get the necessary data or send commands from there?
In Lua I will not be able to write the necessary libraries for the operation of the RL agent, which are available in Python.
I have no plans to train on repetitions yet; the agent will be trained in an active game.

@melanol My maximum goal is to train the agent to play normally against the simplest in-game AI bot.
Yes, I know about Unity ML-Agents, but I’m not interested in those simple environments, I want to start right away with FAF.

    • Is there access to the game API to obtain certain data?

For experimental purposes, I have plans to try to make a RL (reinforcement learning) agent for FAF. Are there ways to get game state and send commands through Python?
For example, is it possible to receive data from the game such as the position of units, buildings, and also send commands to build at certain coordinates, select units and send units to a certain point, etc.? Is there a gaming API?

      @archsimkat
I argue that aeon t2 shield are bad because they cannot be upgraded to t3.
The absence of an upgrade to t3 can in no way be the right balance for a aeon t2 shield.
Aeon t2 shield is balanced by the fact that it has a small radius.

      The importance of shield radius.
The Aeon shield at the forefront can hold 21 objects.

The Seraphim shield at the forefront can hold 49 objects.

The Seraphim has twice the capacity of objects under the shield.

The upgrade is not a critical buff and does not affect balance or shield stats in any way. The aeon shield is already balanced by the coverage radius.

Adding an Aeon shield upgrade does not enhance the shield's stats in any way, they remain the same.

      Shield radius t2 aeon 20
      Shield radius t2 seraphim 28

      Shield radius t3 aeon 35
      Shield radius t3 seraphim 46

As you can see, the small radius is already compensated by the cheapness of the Aeon shield. The absence of an upgrade is not justified by anything.
In narrow areas it is not always possible to put a large number of shields.

      @Exselsior
The aeon shield is cheaper by 120 mass than the uef shield, the cheapness is due to the coverage radius.
But the absence of an upgrade to t3 is not due to anything, neither by price, nor by radius, nor by hp.
