The current pre-release of the client ("pioneer" in the version) is only compatible to itself. So you can only play with other testers. Please be aware!

    • RE: New monitor - Asus TUF Gaming 31,5" - problem to play SupCom

@youthenoob said in New monitor - Asus TUF Gaming 31,5" - problem to play SupCom:

      As mac said:

      • check the HDMI specs on your monitor and on the laptop. It will drop down to the lower spec. There is limited bandwidth and 144Mhz is a huge amount of data on that resolution. It might be that the laptop or the monitor doesn't support that refresh rate and that resolution for that HDMI spec. The Mhz means that 144 screens are sent every single second. Dropping it to 60Mhz is not noticeable unless you are playing twitch games.

The cable thing might not be an issue in other games since they are probably overriding the default refresh rate to whatever they can manage.

      • Are you using the correct graphics drivers? Old drivers massively dropped the performance. The new ones have since fixed it. I believe the way to check for this would be to go into console ( ' ), then type d3d_WindowsCursor (Press enter). This will turn off the thing that was causing the performance hit.

      • Another option could be enabling compatibility mode on your games. This should drop the system down to an older standard when playing the game. Be aware that Forged Alliance changed the settings after it closes. To get around this, I made a file that changed the compatibility settings before I run FAF.

Wow, you saved me. I solved the problem: the last NVidia driver... damn. Such a simple thing and I didn't notice this before at all.

Thank you Noob and Mac, you guys helped me a lot.

Yesterday I stayed all night long trying to solve the problem and today I was going to buy the displayport adapter that Mac suggested.

I updated the driver and boom, it worked perfectly. I didn't even need any changes at NVidia's panel to make it work and the best thing: all my games are running fluid now.

Just one last doubt: is there any gap between the 1.2 displayport cable that came from with the monitor and an adapter I may buy? I found an 1.8 adapter at Amazon and I don't know if I can buy it for two reasons:

      1. If is there any gaps on adapter's use, 'cause the cable is a DP and my laptop's is a mini port (will I lose quality or something using the adapter)?

      2. If is there any gaps if I use a higher or newer version of displayport adapter (to mini displayport) than that one from the monitor?

      Thank you very much 👏 👏 👏 😁 💪

Please attach the full log. It is difficult to read and to scroll in the thread. I have removed the wall of text.

Edit: I am using the same resolution as you. So it should work by default. The issue seems not related to resolution, which is some progress, I guess.

Thank you for your support, guys. How can I take the full log?

@zob said in New PC - can't play - can't change the resolution - AMD:

did you remember to run forged alliance without faf to set your preferences? (name and resolution etc)
you could probably import your preferences from your old pc, which would keep your hotkeys and templates

I didn't import. I mean, I tried to use my saved games inside my Steam's account, but for some reason didn't work, then I started to install all games again.

About FAF, yes, I did with regular SupCom (no expansion) and then with FAF, because sometimes the game allows me to enter with the standard 1024 x 768 res. I entered, set my profile name (SharkCode) and because the res was bad, I was trying to change it, but it didn't work.

@chenbro101 said in New PC - can't play - can't change the resolution - AMD:

@sharkcode Can you play any other games besides CS2? Are there any other symptoms you notice? Was your OS installed on a formatted drive? What OS are you using?

Yes. Since my new setup was ready yesterday, I started to play some games, but didn't have any problems. I didn't try some complicated games like some old ones as Imperium Galactica and Metal Fatigue (with them I had problems even with my laptop), but I didn't notice anything strange up so far. No lag, no rendering problems, very smooth. I'll try some other games.

But there is a good news. After my last post I could play. That DPI thing in the quoted thread seemed to work for me. I had problem trying other resolutions, but strangely with the 2560 x 1440 - 165 Hz it worked and I could play with not even one problem (I played only for about 15minutes - I'll test more today) and I didn't use any mods. I'll try with them in a minute. Now the game seems to be stabilized. It's very strange.

Ah I remember metal fatigue. Surprised someone else even mentioning it.

Yes, my friend. Metal Fatigue, IG2, Forsaken, Railroad Tycoon... I love some pretty old games hehe. It's a pity IG2 and Metal Fatigue were not continued. Love them both hehe.

Just to let you guys know: I have tested SupCom many times since yesterday and it's stabilized. I had no problems against AI and I played some big maps with 16 players. Everything seems to be working fine since that DPI thing.

Thank you very much for your attention. I still didn't play on-line, but I think the game will work nice.

Just one more thing: did someone change the fonts used in the game? I realized mine are a little messy and there are some phrases misconfigured in game lobby 😕

Do you have the latest updates for Windows and drivers for your graphic card?

Thank you very much for the quick answer. About this first thread, yes. I have installed all the current versions of everything. I think I didn't miss anything.

@magge said in New PC - can't play - can't change the resolution - AMD:

Do you have installed the DirectX stuff which comes with the game? (Not sure if needed, but does not hurt to narrow down the issue
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\DirectX

I have installed the Directx after you said, but seems it didn't change anything. I restarted the system, but it's the same as before.

I'm using the max resolution with a DP cable

What is the max resolution you are using? Does having SC in window mode, e.g. ~1080p fix the issue?

The max of my monitor is 2560 x 1440 and I was able to open the game and start a match using 1024 x 768 - 60 Hz, but I can't change the resolution for any other (tried many times with diff res) and my monitor keeps turning off before coming back (it stays turned off for about 15secs and then it turns on again).

Tried the steps on this thread: https://forum.faforever.com/topic/8119/client-ui-freezing/4 and now I could at least change the resolution for the max. I'll try to start a match and play to see if the game is gonna crash. I'll let you know. I didn't try trough client, it was directly from my desktop's FAF icon.

    • New PC - can't play - can't change the resolution - AMD

      Hello, guys.

I have SupCom in two systems.

In my gamer laptop it works just fine. It is a core i7 9th gen, 16 Gb RAM and a GTX 1660Ti. I usually play nice on it, but it's very limited.

So, I just built my new gamer setup, hoping I was going to play with tons of units, but my dream became a nigthmare.

My new PC is a Ryzen 9 7900X, GPU is a RX 7900XT, 64 Gb RAM and an Asus TUF Gaming 31.5 monitor with 165 Hz (I'm using the max resolution with a DP cable). I think I have installed all the drivers and updates, because I was playing CS2 normally.

First I have installed normal SupCom (no expansion). I could play a little, just for fun, but in some point of the game I had a "enable to save dump file error 183" error.

Then I installed FAF and I couldn't play not even one match. First I tried trough FAF Client, the game couldn't even launch. My monitor just turned off and the screen got black.

I tried to play without the client and the situation got worst. Trying trough this way happened 2 situations: in first my monitor went black and I could hear the intro and in-game sounds. I tried again and I was able to enter the game and click in options to try to change the resolution, but whenever I do, my monitor turns off and a gray window appears in my left desktop corner (I can click other windows, but I can't finish the game's process, except if I leave Windows and come back).

      Please, help me 😞

Sorry, Jip, I'm quite dumb for these system things. I tried to find the logs inside SupCom's folder, but I couldn't. Where can I find 'em?

    • 165Hz screen refresh rate with 2k resolution - not working - gray window

      Hello, guys.

I have a 32" ASUS TUF Gaming monitor and I was using the 2560 x 1440 resolution in 144Hz (HDMI cable). Then I changed to a Displayport cable and I updated all my games res to 2560 x 1440 165Hz (the monitor supports 244Hz, but my video card - GTX 1660 Ti - only supports 165Hz), except SupCom.

I tried many times to change to 2560 x 1440 165Hz, but despite it appears on my res options, it didn't work. My screen simply goes gray and the game stops running, then I have to use alt + F4 to close it, since not even control + alt + del works...

Does the game give us the real option to use 165 Hz? If so, what could be possible wrong?

Please, help me and thanks in advance.

    • Need help with a bug

Hello, guys. Recently I have back to FAF and I've been facing the problem in the file attached (log file) every time I try to close the game.

Also, many maps are bugged like some survival ones, when the units face off the sky (I can see them falling) and there are holes where the nukes should be placed (the nukes are launched, but I can't see the silo, only the hole instead).

I tried to reinstall the game, but didn't work, the bugs keep happening. I have the last version of the game and, also, my Nvidia video card drivers are up-to-date. Any thoughts?game_20807009.log game_20807547.log

    • RE: New monitor - Asus TUF Gaming 31,5" - problem to play SupCom

Thanks, Mac, I'll buy that DP adapter then, but what I think strange is that when I set the monitor's and game's rate to 60hz, nothing changes and the problems still occurs. I thought like: well, if the game doesn't support higher rates, maybe I can downgrade it and make all the devices talk with each other in lower rates, but didn't work.

Wasn't this supposed to work? Because my HDMI is quite good (golden plated and so on) and it isn't that old (from about 2 years ago). SupCom isn't a game that requires that much from a computer I think. My specs should work fine, mainly against AI. My CPU and GPU wasn't even working hard as I monitored while playing.

If so, my HDMI cable should handle the rate at 60 Hz and that's not what happened... very strange. Any ideas from what that's maybe coming from? Maybe some hints about NVidia's control panel? I don't understand much of all those options.

I decided to try playing again. I've set all the main options to low and nothing.

If was a cable problem I think it should happen with others games, no? Mainly with CS GO that is a heavier game...

I think I'm missing something with the settings.

I also turned Freesync off and nothing...
