A FAQ for Supcom Gameplay

Hello! I started the (long and arduous) process of creating a playlist of short form videos answering questions that I have gotten many..... MANY times over the course of a few years on youtube/twitch.

FAQs such as -

  • Economy

How to balance eco? - https://youtu.be/PvMnSDvHV-U

  • Micro

How to Bomber? - https://youtu.be/3Uouf_X8A7c
How to ACU? - https://youtu.be/GE4zeDoFweU

  • Strategy

How to Nuke? - https://youtu.be/BPi5RjVQiNw

  • The Client

This list will be expanded as more videos come out, and will hopefully be a useful resource for the community!

If you have any burning questions you want addressed that you haven't seen answers for, use the doc here to leave a comment! https://tinyurl.com/y4x68gvn

Mods - Please let me know if there is a more appropriate place for this, I checked the tutorials subcategory, and it seems like only map/mod making?

I like your new video series. Make one about artillery and another about nukes!

So because of your video people can magically use the seraphim exp bomber like one large projectile.

It's a very useful skill, during my last games on Seton's it took me 4 tries to kill mr. Farms with Suicide T4 bombers. Clearly there is room for improvement.
Also I would suggest adding this to your video description: FAF Guide

@Tagada Yes, it is quite useful - but it feels strange when it happens to you 😞 .

@BRNKoINSANITY With regard to your balance eco video:
From my perspective there are more resources in the game than just mass, energy and build power. I think there is also:

  • Attention
  • Presence (land / air / navy)

You can trade attention into mass / energy (manual reclaim) or into more build power (more factories / engineers) or into more presence (micro during a battle). And your opponent can cost you attention (harassing) or presence (forcing a battle), as they can cost you resources (lose extractors / power generators).

And attention is one of the resources that depends on the player. If are you relatively slow than you won't be able to compete with someone who can react a lot faster (or: can pay attention to the right things).

Overall great work on both of them, 10/10 would subscribe again.

There are basically an infinite number of resources. ACU health is a resource that regenerates. TMLs that get built in a launcher are a resource. Etc.

These videos appear to be designed to be about 4 minutes (not counting intro/ending) so they have to be focused, he can't talk about all possibilities out there. I do think it makes the most sense to highlight those 3 particular resources as the ones that you need to focus on/balance with your limited attention. There is a direct relationship between the 3 and nothing else comes close in importance.

When @FtXCommando first explained to me that we were balancing three resources, not two (mass/energy) I think I went up 100 rating points instantly. In my 1v1 guide (shameless plug https://forums.faforever.com/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=17559) I do describe attention as a resource so I'm not disagreeing with you, just that it doesn't belong in this particular video.

@Jip this observation is totally valid, but keep in mind something - One of the foundations of this project is to be very specific. Vids need to be under 5 minutes, very information dense while being easy listening material, and address things that a lot of people struggle with consistently.

Totally true that units and APM are resources, but you can't easily explain that in the same video with this format because it dilutes the point and takes too much time to show. Hopefully as time goes on and this gets fleshed out more, other pieces can be added to complete the puzzle, or people can be directed to more in depth tutorials.

@BRNKoINSANITY Of course! I understand - I just wanted to mention wondering whether other people agree to the observations 🙂 . I just really like the video - I hope it helps people understand the game more.

New WST is up!!! This time around, it is "how to ACU."

I packed everything I could into ~6.5 minutes because I couldn't get it shorter. As always, I am super interested in feedback so that I can improve future videos!!! A side note, the google sheet linked above for suggestions also has future scripts posted to it. If you are a decent player and want to leave comments on things, feel free to. While I am reasonably competent, I ALWAYS miss stuff xD

Thanks guys!

New WST!!! This one teaches how to nuke.

As usual, reminder that there are a lot of constraints for the amount of time in these vids, so dense, to the point, and as few tangents as possible. I could go for an hour on the finer points of nukes and build power xD

Here's the link, and added it to the top - https://youtu.be/BPi5RjVQiNw
