What makes you more or less likely to join the 2v2 matchmaker queue?

The primary goal of this thread is to get more feedback for the matchmaker team.

The time it takes to find a game (less time = more likely to use), the map pool (too many naval maps like there were a month or two ago and I'm less likely to use it), and how long I think it'd take to find a game via hosting a custom game.
The number of players seeking a match will also make me more likely to use it (since it indicates it's likely to be less time to find a game)

The change giving people timeouts for disconnect failures also made me more likely to use it, since there's been a dramatic decrease in the number of failed games once a match has been found following that change compared to before.

I usually join all three, or only 1v1 or only 4v4.

Probably the worst point about 2v2 is that you can have unbalanced teams (e.g. 1200 + 1800 vs two 1500) which can be quite significant; with 4v4 it's usually less of an issue simply due to having more players.

Could not agree more, and tried to address this awhile back. @BlackYps @Sheikah can we please adjust? I am fairly certain this is a major factor in 2v2 issues still after this long:

I like team games. I like the split of responsibilities, the progress through all the tech stages, and adapting towards what my team needs.

I find teams of 4-5 players ideal for this. With more players than that, my impact on the game becomes so tiny that the game result might as well be random. Any less, and it tends to lead to every player having to do everything (large mental drain -> not something I enjoy as relaxation after work), and games being more prone towards mostly t1 stage.

So it's just a personal preference toward 4-5 player teams. 2v2 is too much like 1v1 for me. And I don't enjoy 1v1.

BlackYps already made changes to add greater cost to rating disparity. See here https://forum.faforever.com/topic/4945/allow-us-to-pick-rating-brackets-for-tmm/58 and https://forum.faforever.com/topic/5170/matchmaker-update

It does not appear to be working that well:

Should a 2k+ really be getting paired with a 900? I will admittedly say I did not read the full context, but even so, after getting this reported and checking other games, it seems like it is not addressing the issue.

@morax good chance that both teams are premades in the game you linked.
However i am not so sure about this beeing the case in this one https://replay.faforever.com/18757301

No, it's not a premade. Grimplex sent this to me as we were discussing:

random vs. team

Ah nevermind then, didnt know you got it from grimplex.
I agree that 900s shouldnt be thrown into battle with 2ks (like the above examples with grimplex and turin). The limit in rating difference should not be more than 500 points or so.

Are you ready to defend the increase in search time that would cause?

If I see enough people in queue I typically click all three. Sometimes I'll just click ladder if there are fewer than two people in the 2v2 or 4 in the 4v4 queue.

The rating disparity, in 2v2 Im like a 1k so I get matched with other 1k people but I’m more around 1.5k so I just steamroll super hard and I feel really bad for everyone involved. However, 50% of the time I do get a quality match so it’s pretty decent but not like 4v4 where it always feels balanced
